Default ac to on board air

i have read around that you can change you ac parts out and put on an on board air system. my ac dosent work and in chicago i would only use it 3 months out of the year really dont need it and would rather spend the money on something to help the jeep. so i am looking for what you guys have on here for this bc i cant really find anything on it.

If you are going to the junkyard, you might as well try to find a York Compressor.

It is better than a Sanden compressor. With a York, you only need to remove oil from the air it compresses and add it back to the compressor's crankcase. (at a lower pressure, like 5 lbs.

A Sanden compressor needs to have oil added to the intake air, and removed from the compressed air.

The york is undoubtedly the better compressor but requires much more work to install.

If you don't want to put all the time into the fab work, a better option to save you from having to have a consistent flow of oil into the intake is to convert the sanden pump to grease lubrication.

To do this you need to:
Disassemble the sanden pump,
Clean all the oil out of the crank case,
Block the 2 oil passageways that run from the head/valve plate into the crank case,
Pack the crank case bearings and the orbital ball with grease, and add sufficient grease in the crank case its self,
Reassemble,
There is a plug on the side of the crank case that is used to add oil to the original system, replace that plug with a breather of some sort, I use a small Spectre breather. When I feel it is necessary to add grease I just remove the breather, install a grease zerk, add grease, reinstall breather

The only word of caution is be careful when separating the head and valve plate from the crank case as the gaskets can tear. You can buy new gaskets though, just difficult to source.

most if not all york compressors you find at a junk yard will not be set up for a serpentine belt.

Yea, but you can purchase a new clutch kit with the right pulley, but that just adds additional cost. I think they're $100+
