I'm looking into brake stuff for both of my jeeps. My Cherokee on 35s is a 99 so it has the bigger booster, and I've converted to rear disc brakes. I can't lock up the brakes if I give it all I've got and I have hawk pads in the front and some Bosch pads in the rear. Even though I can't lock them up I've never really worried about stopping downhill or blowing through a stop sign. Not sure where I'll go with that one to improve the braking. Honestly my Comanche with the single diaphragm booster that has vanishing brake fluid stops better than my Cherokee and I can lock up the tires if I want to. I'm curious what the benefits of the wj booster are over the 96 and if there is any benefit over the 99 booster.

I think the rear disc is my next project. For now I probably need to adjust my drums out a couple of clicks. Not really any drag on them, pretty much freespins.

Quote: I see what's going on now. The stock 94 versus the 95/96, the mounting face is different/reverse angles. How the bolts are pointed up/down .With the stock one the mounting face angle will kick curved the rod up, and the 95 will kick the straight rod down. Sorry for the going on, talking to myself, just thinking out loud, And adding info for anyone else that has dumb questions like me. haha.

95/96
Thanks for pics - explaination!

Quote: 95 to 96 used a spacer of 1/4" or so. It's not the best choice anymore. 99 to 04 grand Cherokee is better for a few reasons.
Few reasons? would you Share those please? NVRMD----> found this:
Quote: WJ versus 95 to 96 XJ booster
Actually, the WJ booster is in some ways easier than the 95 to 96 XJ.
I've done both.
XJ, you don't have to mess with the firewall. No big deal anyway.
But, you have to move the washer reservoir. And, once the original booster comes out, the bracket inside the cab moves and makes it a bear to install the new booster.

WJ you have to bend or cut the firewall lip, but don't move the washer bottle.
As an added bonus, the mounting studs of the WJ booster are a bit smaller and it's easier to get in.
Another bonus with the WJ is that it has FLEXIBLE lines from the master cylinder that make putting things together MUCH easier.
And, WJ boosters are newer and easier to find…..
