It gives a rattle at startup then noise stops. In idle low growl is there but bearly. And you cannot hear it from outside unless you pop the hood. Then only just bearly.
Inside the jeep you don't hear much until you put it in gear. Then it (low growl) gets louder when you rev the engine. Let off gas and it gets quieter. Press gas and growl gets louder to a point. But it still only sounds like it comes from under the hood.
And the loud noise that only occurs when the heat/ac is on is the noise that gets louder in reverse.
The low growl matches the rpm to a point then evens out at about 2000 rpm. Let off the gas and growl is gone instantly. Oh, and you still can't hear the growl from outside even when moving.
How can the loud noise and the tranny be connected? I can understand the growl, but still?

i dont know man its a tough call without being able to hear and see it but it does sound like a torque converter. does the noise sound metallic growl or like a low pitch growl. but everything your saying really sounds like a torque convert

Well, problem of the mysterious low growl solved. Anyone care to guess the cauae? Ok, ok, I'll tell you when the ac clutch finely shut off the growl went away.
Now what?

well if you really want your a/c i would take to have inspected by a a/c guy at a shop cause that could be potentially be a bomb lol but if u have the gauges you can check it. you might have mixed refrigerants causing it not to be able to build pressure but be full and your ac compressor is probably shot. so your looking at an a/c system evacuation and a new compressor

You could need an AC clutch or AC bearing or AC compressor or AC switch or a combination there of- take it to a shop. Be prepared to get bent over if you need a compressor (like $600 including labor and AC charge). You can replace it yourself if you're comfortable doing so. You can also replace the clutch and bearing by themselves, but it can be a little tricky. I've done it recently with success.

Update:
I got my compressor clutch working again (cycles 10 secs).
However, that did not eliminate the noise. I still have it (sounds like it's comming from behind the glove box) 10 secs there 10 secs not.
Could I have some sort of blockage?
Oh and I have really, really low pressure (unreadable) when it cycles on and 25 psi when it cycles off. Is that normal? If not what is?
