Default 97+ Doorless Concerns

I want to make my doors removable. However, i have some concerns about doing it because my Jeep is my DD for about 20k miles a year. Many of which are during the winter months.

-How bad do your doors sag after a while of having cut the hinges?

-Will my doors still seal fairly well to keep out cold air and moisture?

-What size "pins" did you use for the drop-in pins?

-Do you recommend I make my doors removable and why?

Thank you all in advance.

Despite noise from the wife thing I'm in a very similar boat. If only so I can fix rust in all of the various places. I've got a 99.

In regards to sealing, I'd think that sag is mitigated by the clasp when the door is shut, but the hinge end might not seal any more. My doors sag a little as it is, when they're closed they definitely move up a bit. Maybe fresh gasket foam rubber seal stuff would help.

Subscribed, in any case. Lol

I would assume the doors would be in a better place on the body when closed, but how well will the top of the door seal is the best question. I really dont want rain or anything getting in.

I also dont want them to look like ****.

No_rdplz did a great right on doing it. He's got very little sag if at all. It's in the write up section for xjs.

It was real easy to do. If you don't have access to a welder you can just use bolts and pull them with needle nose pliers. But he got a much better Nd tighter fit with the doors once he welded on the bolts. His doesn't leak or get any wind inside.

Slip a welder $20 and they'll do a quickie weld for ya easily. Lots of welders don't mind.

I really dont want to unbolt the hinges. I know of a few cases where the hinges were unbolted and the doors severely sagged because it.

I'd recommend doing it when the weather is good! I did mine a little early in the spring and it was still a bit cool. It sacked riding with it too cold put and I wanted it so bad!

It all depends how you bolt em back up again. Providing they go back whee they came off,
I don't see it being a problem. True I would like to find someone that did it this way. I believe dukie did it the grinder way and cut the pins out

Like the other guy said if you brought the doors and bolts it's wouldn't cost much to get em welded. They don't even need to be pretty welds.

After working No_rdplz 's doors both ways I'd recommend getting the bolts welded into place if I were doing it. It's cumbersome using a bolt and sliding it in and keeping it lined up. It's doable but just being able to drop the doors in is a huge help. I have a 97 but it has the old style hinges and to be honest the newer hinges are easier make door less. Just a little harder harder to make drop in because of the need of a welder.
