97 4.0 in a 2000
Hey guys I got a 2000 cherokee so it has a coil pack and not a distributor. I have an older 4.0 motor to go in it but what do I need to change over. Do I need to change my wire harness or get a block off plate and run the coil pack?

I have done a number of older 4.0 swaps into a 2000-01 XJ's.
The exhaust manifold will not cover over the earlier model larger exhaust ports, I alway used an aftermarket header, last few from eBay for about $130-140, search 2000 Jeep 4.0 Stainless Header for options (Note the bottom 2 center bolts on the header are a bear to get tight)

Chevy Starter shims work great (drill one hole) for brackets to hold the coil pack using the bolts for the Valve Cover (bunch of ways to make brackets), or you can look at the "Jeep XJ Viper Coil Swap" - Google it - If using the stock coil I usually trim enough of the bottom (against the head) of the bolt sleeve on the coil so I can stick the bolts upside down through the coil, about 1/4" and use a nut on the other side.
Swap your intake over (better flow and you will have all the right sensors then)
I always use very thin coat Permatex Ultra Copper RTV on both sides of the gasket per a suggestion of a drag racing buddy.
Some have used the stock exhaust manifold with a gasket that covers the gap from the bigger exhaust port, but I don't suggest it.
Research on how to setup the cam sensor to swap where the distributor is, when you find the toothpick way of holding it in the right place you will know you found a good write up
I prefer 96-99 motors for these swaps.
Nothing else is required (some older motors have the temp gauge sensor in the head, where 2000-01 is near the thermostat - but you can either leave the old sensor unused, or put a plug in it) no wiring is needed to be changed, I always swap all the brackets over, but I think they are all the same from 97 - 01
Hollar if you have any questions,
