96 XJ fridge slider install....
I'm installing a Dometic 35qt, 12V fridge with a Dobinsons slider unit into a '96 Cherokee. It will be located next to where the spare used to be.
How are you guys mounting the steel slider to the floor? It will require a 1x3" vertical spacer to clear the rear hatch moldings.
Are folks drilling through the floor? The gas tank is under there.
TAI, Gary

If it were me, I would weld a couple pieces of 3x1/4" flat bar under each slide. Then thread and tap the flat bar for the slides. Will spread the load nicely.

yes it is....been there... anyway...
for another project I did, I just tack welded some small angle brackets to the sheet metal of the trunk floor, not real heavy duty...... but inbetween the unirails is kind of off limits for screws. Maybe go side to side with some 1x1 and raise the trunk floor. Or build a "L" shaped cradle that bolts to where the spare tire was, but just rests on the floor.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Since I'm not up dropping the gas tank myself, I'll probably have my local jeep shop install a thread'd bar, or thd'd inserts into the floor from underneath. I made the spacers to raise the slider unit from 1 x 3 (3/4 x 2.5/8 actual) hardwood. then painted it dark grey to match the slider.
The fridge will be powered with a 100W solar panel (for starters) on the roof rack (or under it) and second battery with an isolator so it gets charged from the alternator and the solar panel, but the Fridge will only discharge the "house" battery.

Sorry, it wasn't a "write up", just the plan. I'm still gathering electrical components (for the solar set up). The slider will be done tomorrow, but I'll be out of town this weekend and won't be able to start positioning the parts until next week.
I'll post some pics along the way.
