Default 95 XJ 136 amp alternator upgrade

Hey folks,

I am in the process of upgrading my alternator(have installed many new LEDs, winch, stereo...) and want to do the 136 amps upgrade(find it quite cheap compared to larger output alternators). Is there any specific part number I should be looking for?? I see there are tons of threads about this upgrade but they all talk about 97+ years and not the older models as mine.

I am worried about the ECM not regulating the voltage or anything else and yes I will also upgrade the wiring.

You will have to grind the bracket to make room for the larger case.

Thanks, I'm aware of that, but my main concern is about electrical compatibility with the ecu

the ECU won't care if its 60amp or 200amp its all the same to it.

So basically if your junkyard hunting - I typically search for any V8 Dodge truck/SUV, i'm not specific enough to know the year range but im thinking 96~ and older. If its got the same external regulator setup like your jeeps alternator. I often focus on the dodge pickups because the alternators are on top of the engine and Very quick and easy to remove. If the pulley doesn't move then on to the next one....

2nd part to this method - look up the part number (Denso 70113 = 100 amp alternator) to verify the alts power output.

I've done this to a couple of my jeeps over the years, changed nothing else about the wiring and its been all good. i'd like to get into the big 7 wire upgrade at some point though.

Default 120 amp

I’m looking at installing one from a 98 Dodge 2500 with a Cummins
Its a 120 amp model that appears to be a direct bolt on.
