'93 T-Bird Coil Spring Lift (1st attempt)
I made a trip to the Pull A Part yesterday and decided to pick up a set of T-Bird coil springs. I read the thread about parts you can use from other vehicles for a budget Cherokee build and figured I would give it a shot. The T-Bird springs are way thicker than the stock springs are (picture below). I swapped them out today and gained about 3 1/2" but ran into one issue. I forgot to grab the top plate from the T-bird strut. The T-Bird springs are wider at the top and fit around the stock insulators instead of on them. Which brings me to the next part. I road tested it and instantly got death wobble around 50 mph. I have never had death wobble before this. I had the front end aligned about a month ago so I do not believe the alignment is the issue. I am going to buy some t-bird insulators and see what happens. I put the stock springs back on and it ran fine again. I also do not have adjustable control arms so I can't adjust everything associated with the lift. Besides the death wobble it lifted it very nice and level. The T-Bird springs are alot stiffer the the stock prings as well. If any one has done this let me know how yours went.
As you can see the T-Bird spring is way beefier than the stock spring
You can see how the coil spring fit arond the insulator here.

Yeah I was reading about that. I put the stock springs back on for now and its not doing the death wobble for now, but I am gonna wait and get all the right stuff then get it re aligned and see what happens.

you mean the t-bird "Mcpherson strut top plate", not insulator.
yea you def need those. You have to enlarge the center hole to fit the XJ bumptower and use a couple of these to secure the plate to the coil

Get some front springs off a 75 to 79 ford f150. Does exact same thing. They are stiffer like the t-birds and gives about 3 1/2" lift, but the are narrow at the top and fit perfectly on the isolator. Straight swap, nothing to fab.
