Default 91’ Loredo 3.55 to Replace a 91’ Sport 3.07 Dana 30. Carrier Swap

Was going to replace a 91 Sport Dana 30 3.07 with a 91 Laredo Dana 30 3.55. But the Laredo Dana 30 housing has a big crack in the shock mount, and some other rust damage.

Can I swap the carrier and other innards from the Laredo Dana 30 to the Sport Dana 30?

The Laredo rear is a Chrysler 8.25 3.55. Housing is all good. I want to replace the Dana 35 3.07 of the Sport. All looks good there.

Realize that I can't run in 4WD with different gearing. But I have absolutely zero intent on doing that.

Concerned about the front carrier swap. One issue on my mind is to put it back in exactly as I took it out by removing and reinstalling a carier in the same housing. What about removing a carrier from one housing and reinstalling in another. How would I even begin to know how to line up the two?

Please advise.

Yes the carrier and gears will swap into your other Dana 30, but you will have to set your backlash, pinion depth, and pinion preload so everything works right and you don't tear up your gears or burn up your bearings, I recommend getting a Dana 30 install kit to do this swap. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-1996-J...0AAOSwzPBZpv6q

Find another D30 with 3.55s. They're a dime a dozen, I've thrown two out this year alone.

Looks like the two only options. Thank you both for a response.

Just wondering... is 3.55 a ratio in the ring and pinion? If not, what are the components in the 3.07, 3.55, or 4.10 ratios?

Found a Bleepin’ Jeep vid that explained it. # Of teeth on the ring / # of teeth on the pinion.

Thanks again for the responses.

If I go this route and find an axle without that CAD, how is the absence of the CAD to be managed? I guess just like a CAD delete in those Bleepin’ Jeep videos, minus the plate on the axle?

Just swap the axles in and unplug and cap the vacuum lines.

How can I find out if a 97’ Dana 30 HP is compatible with the 91’. Will the later year Dana 30 require modifications (like grinding down or drilling anything)?

It's a direct bolt in.

You don't really want the CAD anyways. I have no idea what BleepinJeep said to do in his video, but you can pull the vacuum lines off and trash all of it BUT you will lose the 4wd light on the dash, you can hook the lines back together so the light still works though.
