C'mon I know someone has to have an idea..... rather it b some smart@$$ comment bout the 91+ working on my 87 or just an SOL comment!! I need to know if there is really a difference before I go buy one for a 91+ and bolt it on..... and if someone makes one that'll fit my 87 I wanna go that route first that way I don't absolutely have to get a new exhaust if the 91+ won't bolt up to mine

87 thru 90 are as we all know renix fuel injection. with that the exhaust port shape is different from the 91 and later 4.0 also the 87- 90 uses EGR . also the location of the o2 sensor is somewhat different.Thorley headers( Doug Thorley now) used my 87 Cherokee as a test vehicle.they also issued a carb# for 50 state use.they never put it into production because there was no call for it. my header to block flange is warped and needs to be resurfaced. as they dont make the header im out of luck.i have looked on Ebay and i did find a Dynomax that is supposed to fit 87 to 94. but it had two pipes going into a collector. just didn't look right.

Sounds likes good option is to swap on a HO head and use the 91+ application.

Bit that's alot of crap just to replace the stock manifold with a header.

if your outside Calif. and don't have a smog check where they look for and test the EGR . then id say go for it.or do an engine swap to a later 4.0 with all the correct wiring and emission components.

You wont need a full motor swap.
