8.8 Codes
Hey guys, before i buy this 8.8 setup http://cosprings.craigslist.org/pts/2904778808.html thats already been converted and welded im trying to find out what it came off of as the current owner "thinks" its off a exploder. i know that you can find it on the door pillar but its not attached to the explorer anymore so my question is...are they stamped or is there supposed to be a sticker on the diff itself listing the code so i can find out what it came off of?
already have the code listing that i found thru some searching here so once i get it, i can determine if ill be buying it
any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

lots of info here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Axles.html
if its discs and has the XJ bolt pattern than the only thing it could have came from is an exploder. everything else either had drums or a bolt pattern other than 5 on 4.5

ahhh thank you, wasnt aware of the fact that only explorers had discs
i think the main wierdness i found was that it lists 4.11's as the gear and couldnt find that as a stock application. my thoughts were that maybe it had the lower gearing and was upgraded, either way not an issue i suppose as ive got to match my 4.56's up front
again thanks!

500 bucks for a 8.8. They sell for 100 bucks all day long here and the braket kit is 50 bucks or so. It prolly has 4.10s which is stock in most Explorers, same as 4.11s.

cheapest im finding around here colorado springs/denver area (simple carparts.com search) is $250, i thought about offering $400. so compared to local junkyard prices with no conversion plus the fact that i cant weld prices start to rise quickly. Cheapest shop will do the gear install for $600 as well. Asked the guy for pics and if it had calipers included. if not thats another 100-150 so yeah the pricyness is already turning me off to the swap.
thing is im starting to worry how long my 35 will holdup, by all means i dont beat on the thing, but i do try to frequent the trails here in CO
