8.8 build
I got my 8.8 I wanna start building. It has 4.10 gears and 31 spline shafts and a open diff. I currently have 32s but next time around will prob go 33s. Is 4.10 gears good or should I do 4.56 gears? Also lunch box locker or a Detroit locker it's a dd/weekend warrior. I drive it every day but I also have a pick up I drive so it's like my second car but I drive it every day. I Havnt wheeled it yet do to the fact I wanna build axles. Also I was thinking a super 88 kit with the c-clip iliminators. What are everyone's thoughts? Thanks guys.

4.10s are the most economical i.e. close to stock with 33's. 4.56s mean more torque for off roading. Detroit is best but also expensive, so really your choice. As far as kits I'm no expert with the 8.8
The super 88 kit is no longer made but yukon makes the same kit.The gear ratio chart we go by http://www.jeep4x4center.com/jeep-ti...atio-chart.htm
Yea I'm just unsure what I wanna do. If I'm going to do it I might as well do it correct the first time and I like to over build also just so I know it's good to go no matter what I throw at it.
Use the following and you'll see that 4.56 gears (with 33" tires and an AW4) are going to get you a lot closer to stock performance curve.

you're building for 33's, that's a big old axle for those size tires. keep it cheap and simple for now. I'd keep stock shafts, C-clips, as well as the 4.10's. maybe keep it open diff and keep an eye out for a nice used Detroit (personal preference for me, I can't stand a lunchbox clicking all the time). the 8.8 has way more beef to it than you're going to be able to utilize for now. just get it on the street and trail to get a feel for what you want to upgrade next. most likely you wont feel the need to add anything to it
if you ever want 35's, I'd say 4.56's/4.88's are a must

My 89 has 8.8 with 4.10s and 33x10.50s.. the speedometer stayed the same as stock. also gets around 18-20mpg with auto.. I don't run street much, just to get to the desert. I'm running a mini spool.. Seems like it was around $100 or so. I really like this combo, but wish it had 4.56. Since its mostly set up for the trail

So what would be better for me and my needs? Or is it personal preference? Also worth changing to 4.56 gears or staying 4.10 like it has to keep cost low. I also have to change gears in the front so if I'm gonna do that I might as well go to 4.56 no?!
