I've got a 8.25 rear end and its got a whine around 45mph so I'm looking to swap it out. I was steered in the direction of the Exploder 8.8 as a direct swap with few mods. Now the one I found is a disc setup and am curious if I have to upgrade my booster since I have drum rears now. And any little tricks to assist and make my swap easier would be helpful.

Ford 8.8 is not a SWAP, it is a Conversion. It is a Good Upgrade and requires some fabrication, modification and possible regearing to be useable. If you want a SWAP get a 1997 or later 8.25 or a D44 from a 80's XJ

you will need to cut off all the existing brackets and mounts on the 8.8

then you will need to weld new leaf perches and shock mounts.

you can get away without changing anything brake wise. just hook the lines up

Correct it is not a swap but I've heard nothing but good from this conversion. I was planning on regearing to 4:10 and converting the axles to delete the c-clips. When it gets bolted up it will be damn near brand new. Just looking for tips from anyone that has done it already as well as the brakes.

Thanks I was planning on some welding. The brakes were my main concern.

brakes will work fine, but if you do feel like messing with them then a prop valve from a disk brake ZJ will work also
