Engine: 4.0

8.25 98 cherokee splines

Any way to tell if I have a 27 or 29 spline without tearing into it? I'd rather not waste the gear oil if I can help it.

This is a 98 cherokee sport 4wd auto 4.0l with 8.25" chrysler rear end.

97+ 8.25's are 29 spline

Actually the installation of 29 spline axles in the Corp 8.25 started in June of 1996.
