Alright, a few questions.
First, how can i tell what spline a 8.25 is?
second. I have a choice to for an even trade of my 8.25 for a 96 ford 8.8. My jeep is a 2000 and has ABS. I read online that 8.8s are not compatable with anti-lock brakes. Is there a way around that if i choose the 8.8?
Thanks

yours is a 29 spline unless it's been replaced... unless your planning on running tires larger then 35's stick with what you got and save your money

My jeep currently has a D35 on it and since I'm lifting it I figured I'd put a better axle in. I don't care about the ABS, do i have to have it on the rear axle? If i don't then ill just pull the fuse out for it.
If i can't bypass the ABS, how would I tell if an 8.8 had ABS?
The reason I have the 8.25 is because the junkyard sold it to me claiming it was a dana 44. I didn't bother to look at it until i got home.

You can just pull the fuse to "bypass" the ABS, really just turns it off. If it were me i would take that axle back to the junkyard and raise hell when there were the most amount of people in there, kinda bs to sell you the wrong stuff and ask to trade it for a 8.8 with disc brakes.
If your going bigger than 35's go with the 8.8, if not then stick to 8.25. Either way you wont have ABS unless you do some tricky stuff and make those axles work with the ABS

I plan on doing a 6.5 inch lift with 33s. The most appealing thing with the 8.8 is the disks. I was considering doing disks on a d44 if I got 1
definitely dont settle then. if you got a 29 spl axle, just ask for a bunch of cash back and keep the axle, unless they will give you an ok deal on an 8.8 w/discs. 8.8s arent too pricey so you might get what you ask for

They don't seem to know very much about axles at this place. They price based off of the ring and pinnions. The cheapest 8.8 I can find is for 175 and i'd have to remove it myself.
