Default 5 speed swap?

Right now i have 92 Cherokee with a 4.0 aw4 auto with a np242 tcase, id like to swap trannies to an ax5/ax15 manual. I know i need th tranny and clutch, clutch pedal, etc. but what do i need to do about computer? will i need a whole new harness, computer, or will it work with the few things unplugged?

If someone could give me any pointers or maybe even a thread someone else has allready done it id appreciate it.

X2! I've been wanting to do this in mine too because I have to shift the AW4 like a manual anyways, but without all the fun of a clutch haha

from what I know the 242 is said to not be the greatest for a manual... but you would need the cross member from a manual XJ, and clutch pedal assembly along with a different drive shaft... you might actually need to have a different transfer case because I don't know if they made one that matches up to the 242... hope this helps.

Ya i dont care for the 242 all that much any ways. would like to go with a 231. drive shafts are understandable but my main concerns is with the computer or harness???

I doubt that you will have any trouble with the computer as it's a 92... most likely you will have to modify the harness... but you may not as I don't know what is different in the harness for the 242...
