Default 42re on a 89 XJ

Is it possible to get a 42re off a 96 ZJ working on a 89 XJ?

I'm no trans expert (or Jeep expert for that matter) but since the 42re is electronic, I'd imagine it has some kind of powertrain control module or something that controls it and that without it, won't work.
I can say that, having had vehicles with the 42re, I'd much rather have an AW4 transmission any day.

There is no flexplate that matches the 42RE and your Renix fuel injection system.

Your 89 transfer case is 21 spline whereas the 42RE is 23 spline.

Need I go on?
