Why not run 33s always?

Its for sure doable, MPG will suffer abit, more noticable on the highway Id say. If you arent going any bigger do 4.56.

Most of the guys I wheel with that have a 3 pedal rig with 35's are running 4.10s and they seem pretty happy. The steep gear runs better with the A/T because of the Cherokees overdrive automatic.

4.46 gears would be an option. What lift and what axles do you have now? I just dropped 4.56 gears in my DD and love the set up. I am running an ax-15, 33x10.5x15 BFG KM2s and a built Chry 8.25. I am thinking about moving to 35s next. The 4.46 gears would be a good compromise for you although 32" tires and 4.56 gears would not be ideal for a lot of why driving. 4.56 gears+35s+ax15 = solid trail setup if you don't do a lot of crazy crawling. Why don't u just get a set of 33s with 4.56 gears and call it a day?

A word from the wise... think long and hard about what tire side you plan on running into the future, regearing is spendy and you really want to avoid doing it more than once.

One more thing, when you are looking at gearing charts don't be afraid if it shows your final RPMs around 2,500 at 65 MPG. The 4.0 does not mind higher RPMs I actuly average about 17-18 MPG at 60 mph and about 2,250 RPM. If u find yourself around 3,000 RMP at 65 MPG your gear/ tire combo is probably not ideal for daily driving unless you are driving up Mt Everest or pulling a tractor trailer every day.

I have ax15, 33x12.5x15 BFG KOs, and 4.56. I like this a lot and it works OK on 2 lane (70mph tops) roads. I'm not sure it would be my first choice if I did much freeway driving though. 32s and 4.88 may be a little too deep.

I have a 3" that I plan on adding 2" to. I have HP D30 and C8.25 29 spline. just bought the 32s and they are a/ts so I was thinking about using them as dd and have a another set for the trails. I don't get out as much as I use to so it sees pavement a lot more than trails.

i have 32's now on 4.56 & will soon switch to 33's so my 65-70 mph driving will drop the rpm down a bit. i would not want 4.88 at all w/ 32's. 4.88 gears are well suited for 35's, 4.56 for 33's, 4.10 for 31's . 32's are in that gray zone somewhere, depending on if more offroad or more hiway use. imo

IMHO a set of 4.56's would max out for me (4.0 & AW4) and your usage along with the strength issue with the 4.88's pinion being weaker than the 4.56 also. I run a 4.56 and 33's and like you I recently bought a set of used beadlocks and 35" tires that I re-grooved for a couple of trails I go on sometimes. Mine is not a DD either limited usage on highway.
