4.5" lift death wobble help
#16
Ok so I have been doing lots of research trying to solve my dw since my lift. I have replaced everything in the frontend with all new parts except the ball joints. I have shimmed the lower control arms but it seems that that makes the ball joints too far out of line with each other. Does anyone have any advise or pics of how the ball joints should sit? 96xj 4" lift. I know I need lowr arms just gotta save for them. Need to figure this out as its my dd.

The problem with Death wobble is it can be a # of things. Anything from track bar, allignment, steering stablize, or too much lift and not having a SYE or TC drop. I would start with allignment and a 1" TC drop if you are on a tight budget.

Ok so after brand new everything in the frontend. Tie rod and all 3 ends, drag link control arm bushings and stock track bar with a new bracket to relocate after my lift I still had serious death wobble. Alignment shop said it was fine as well as ball joints. So I went ahead and replaced steering stabilizer. Bam! Dw is gone. So to all those that say stabilizer can't cause it just remember every jeep is different. Now $500 later I found the root of mine was a $30 part.

How are your tires? They balanced? How badly are they worn?

Tires are fine and balanced. Alignment is good. Everything except ball joints is brand new. Tie rod and all three ends, drag link, trac bar, control arm bushings. Hubs and all ujoints too. I didn't want to believe it either but it did the trick for me. Only real thing I can think of is that where the stabilizer mounted to the drag link was loose and stabilizer was shot. Guess that's why it fixed it in my case.

Are you still running stock length arms on bottom? Control arm length is what sets proper caster and alignment specs on stock height compaired to lifted is completely different most alignment shop don't allow for lift . Think off you front tires like that wobbly wheel grocery cart .If casters off that sucker shake like a **** while pushing it . control arm length are shown here not difference...http://www.xjtalk.com/showthread.php?t=9520

Ok I see everything from track bars to control arms to alignments to steering components now what I've learned with my stock xj is that when the death wobble started I replaced the stabilizer it solved the issue. When lifting the xj or most jeeps if u can find a dual stabilizer kit it would work perfectly to stop the death shake

Dude...
Mother of ****.
The steering stabilizer is not the fix.
Your steering is screwed up for some reason..all that cool looking little shock is doing is hiding the problem.
Find the real issue and fix it, don't cover it up with something that will just wear out and reveal your worn out steering.
As for that double stabilizer kit..I'd rather buy 100 dollars (or however much it costs) worth of toilet paper then buy something so pointless
