4.0 question
Can I put a 4.0 from a 97 TJ in my 99 XJ? I see post that say yes, and some that say no. So which is it? I understand that the accessory brackets are different. Can I just swap the brackets from my xj engine over to the TJ engine?
Thanks
Thanks

According to Cruisers sticky right above, pre 2000 tj will fit...sadly he cannot be asked for confirmation. The sticky does not state whether the tj brackets are a direct fit but it appears at least the bolt holes are there.

Yes, you can put the 4.0 from the 97 TJ in your 99 XJ.
The short block and cylinder head are the same. You just swap over your intake/exhaust manifolds, sensors, and all the accessory brackets from your XJ motor onto the TJ motor. The difference is in the bolt-on parts, not the engine itself.
Keep your old flexplate/flywheel and your distributor. It will bolt right in.
