Ok so I threw a rod last week and am looking at getting a used engine. I have 2 options that my buddys selling. Ones a 4.0 out of a 04 jeep rubicon with 60K on it. And then my second option is a 4.0 out of a 97 TJ with around 100k on it. Can eather of these engines be swapped into my XJ? Or will a couple of things need to be changed or what?

Yep, more or less a direct swap until 2000+ TJs. After that they have the same cast as WJs.

 

So what would I have to do to swap in the 04 one? What's going to need done. Will I need the wiring harness and they adapt it into mine?

 

You would need to make your own motor mounts.

 

Is that all though? Would It bolt right up to my Aw4 and everything else? Will I need the wiring harness from the rubicon to adapt it into mine
