4.0 interchangability?
My XJ is an '01. I bought it with slightly blown head gasket and used the stuff in a bottle and it worked great.
Eventually I plan on doing it right and replacing the head since its probobly the bad casting and not just the gasket. Maybe even throw in another 4.0 if I can find a deal
I was told by someone to look for an '03 head. Would an '03 motor drop right in with no mod. I don't know If the other models have stuff in other locations.
If I just stick with the head only is an '03 the best choice for casting and distributorless, etc?

youll need a 0331 head. just take the head to a machine shop and have em freshen it up and replace the gasket... easy as that. could also be cracked. you can have em repaired.

If your going to replace the gasket just get rid of the 0331 head ... In 03 they re did the 0331 casting it will say TUPY or TUFY I don't remember that head is a direct replacement.. But you can do the 0630 head casting with a few mods.. Brackets for the coil rail and the exhaust ports are different so you need a adapter plate or a aftermarket header

the 0331 head isnt bad... some crack but the others do too. as long as you dont run it when over heated itll be fine. im interested in this 03 head though... i like my coilpacks, and im pretty sure theres more than just a few things to change to the older style one.
