Ok I have a built dana 30 cromos ect. And a 8.8 both have Spartan lockers and 4.88 gears. Im running 35/12.50/15s and there just about bald and i have a hook up on some new mounted 37/12.50/15s. My question is will the dana 30 hold up til I build a 44. I wheel it in the u.p. and cliffs but mostly dd til I move to Florida in the spring.
whether or not it holds will mainly depend on your driving style. i wouldnt even attempt it for a number of reasons, mainly being that the dana 30 is super tiny for turning 37s and the brakes on it will be very undersized for that big a tire as well. so stopping becomes an issue. i wouldnt do it but thats just me
If you're easy on it, it can last for a while until you can swap in something better. I wouldn't wheel it too hard with 37's on a D30 though, 35's are about the biggest I really trust on a locked D30.
CHromos dont mean crap. Are they 30 spline inners and outers? The weak point then becomes the ring and pinion. then the ball joints. I have broken Yuon inners and alloy Usa inners on 35's and 33's. Sure they had a warranty.. and honored them. The bad thing is they broke at the worst time.

Dana 30 has a weak carrier. I would run aftermarket carrier in the front. Good axles and u-joints. The tj axles I believe are a bit stronger.
Open or lsd in the front also would increase your chances of survival.

Theres an XJ on youtube that runs 38s in the snow on a D30. The guy says he hasnt had any problems. I wouldnt do it though, seems like asking for trouble lol.

funny, i have 2 tj's, and both have the 297 joints.
760's are an upgrade u-joint that fits in the 297 shafts, they're basically the same joint, well size anyways, albeit a little bit stronger.
but yeah, i wouldn't run 37's even on a 44 is pushing it. that's getting into 60's territory. they are so heavy.
it can drive, and maybe stop, but not worth the risk.

obvious solution. get those 37's and hide them in the garage until your jeep is ready
if that's not possible, I promise there will always be another set of tires out there. just wait
