So I relifted my jeep, and I either need to trim the fenders, or put on some aftermarket flares. My question is, is anyone running a similar setup to what the topic says? I have looked into it the past few days and can't find a whole lot of great info other than people with 33's

Currently running approx 5.5" of lift (probably measures more) and 35's on wheels with 4" of back spacing. I may go with bigger tires in the future, but who knows. I only cut a tiny bit in the back side of the front wheel well, and should be fine to run the flat flares if i get them. Any input?

You could always add more bumpstop if you don't want to cut too much

I'm running 38s on 6" with cut fenders. Your stock axles won't hold anything bigger than 35s though.

Yeah, if i went bigger, id do 44's or 60's and unibody stiffners. I just don't wanna get the flat flares if they will rub still when i can cut the fenders for free.

As for the bump stopping, I plan on setting that up correctly once i can get full articulation and see how much i need.

Can't help you with the flares, don't know anyone running them flat or otherwise. If you wheel it the flares won't last long.

For any bw you cut A LOT so clearance should be fine and just bump stop and all will be good

xjmarc, I wheel it occasionally. Mainly when i go up north but there isn't a whole lot around here for them to get caught up on.

wiggles, the flat flares don't need nearly as much cutting as the cut out flares. I guess it's only something like 1.5" on the front and back of the front wheel well. That's why I am debating them.

Simply untrue....there are plenty of people who run them with no issues. A buddy of mine has them and they are plenty strong. The trimming required for the flatties is mostly on the side, I don't think we trimmed any from the top of the fender at all.

To the OP, nice XJ, I am going a similar route. Bushwacker flatties (already have them waiting to go on), 5-5.5", 35s on stock axles

Are the Bushwacker Flares the only ones your thinking about going with? I know they are sold out at the moment, but have you looked at Rusty's Flares?

Not a sales-man, but they're what I'm looking to get into, but I want the flex-ones.

To me they seem to offer more of a choice on clearance for how big you want to go on cutting. Im running 35x12.5-15's on 3.25 BS and only 5 inches of lift up front and around 3 in the rear.

a rig that gets wheeled through trenches and rock off cambers... well if you drag your jeep through something like that and your flares last I'll buy a set myself

It all depends on your wheeling style. People who wheel like that aren't likely to run flares at all.

Thanks for the compliment. Do you have any pics of your buddies with the flatties on it? And what size tires is he running?

I have in the past and wasn't too fond of them, but i'll take a look again. Mainly didn't like how the rivets stand out. I know that's an easy fix with a tiny bit of paint, so maybe ill take a look again. I don't have a welder yet, and for some reason, i thought cutting about the pinch welds was needed?

We don't have anything fun around here for wheeling lol. The only rocks are at some of the ORV parks which are all fairly far away. Mostly do a bit of trail riding up on my land, and they aren't too tight of trails. Will take the advice into consideration though!

heres a good before and after of some flat flares. they should fit 35's they only sit a little lower than where I cut my fenders and I fit 35's on 4.5" lift. should be fine and looks great
