Found a great deal on 5 used Goodyear Kevlars and just a quick question. My XJ is lifted between 4.5"-5.5" and I'm looking at some soft 8 wheels. They're 17x9 with 5" back spacing. Is that backspacing an issue in others opinion? If you have better options let me know. I'm just looking for the best bang for the buck without lacking performance. Thanks.

I'm running 18x9 with 5" of BS.............PERFECT!
Edit to state that I'm using 285s.........you may be closer to 305s++
You may want to go 17x9 +20 or +30............some of the offsets are hard to find in the wheel you want......may have to adjust desire with fit.

BTW.........most of what you hear about spacers is pure bull****.
I run them on my truck......haul weight and pull trailers...........not a problem.
1 1/4" spacers will solve any rubbing problem you may encounter with your BS.

Thanks for the input but I agree. I won't be running spacers, I've had 2 guys I know have broken spacers. This is a trail only truck so it'll be beaten on pretty hard.

Only steel wheel I can find in a 17x8 has 4.5" backspacing. If anyone can find anything closer so 4" or 3.75" let me know. Looking for the soft 8 style

So you want him to put a RWD or FWD offset wheel on his Jeep.
a 15x8 wheel with a 3.75" backspace is a -19 offset. or 19mm from 0(almost 1"). a 15x10 with a 4" backspace is -38 offset or 38mm from 0(almost 2"). Anything wheel wise with a + offset is ment for a RWD/FWD car/ light truck or the factory wheels of most vehicles.
to understand what offset and backspace is please do some research.
to the OP a 17x8 with a 4.5" backspace will be a 0 offset and should fit fine, the 17x9 with a 5" backspace is also a 0 offset.

I could use the JK 5 spoke wheels they come with and get spider trax adapters, but what are the opinions on that? They don't sit very wide do they? Would they tuck ok?

Mine are +1 with a 5" BS.........
BS is to the edge of the rim.........does not equate to +- measurements as the rim is actually wider 9"
BS and metric measurements come out different.
