31" tire toe in settings (1/8" toe) vs. driveability
OK so after I lifted my 96 XJ and put on new 31" x 10.5" shoes I took her for a brief test ride, and WOW she felt solid on 31's! Locked onto the road.
Next, I came back, and adjusted the tie rod (toe) and steering (drag link) to set the toe by the method used here:
I used 2 pieces of angle iron, two bubble levels and two identical tape measures. My FIRST measurement was 1" toed in coming from stock tire size ... too much! Right?
So, I adjusted the tie rod until I had 1/8" of toe in (front side of front tires measure 1/8" smaller than rear side of front tires) as recommended on here at CF.
So, I take her for a test drive, and problem is, my steering is wonky now ... it feels like it "dives" into cornering ... It's not bad, but it's noticeable ... I liked it better before!
The steering for sure felt more "solid" with more toe in. Why? If I increase toe in, will I risk doing damage to my tires?

The extra toe creates a bunch more pressure on your steering and suspension creating a tighter feel but this will cause your tires to feather and wear extra fast.
How are your sway bar bushings? End links? Control arm bushings? Ball joints?
Do you have adjustable or aftermarket fixed control arms if not youve lost caster which is going to make the steering wonky and cause it to tram.
Check those other parts.
