27 to 29 spline swap.
Before I get flamed, I've searched and not found my answer. I have a 27 spline 8.25 and want to swap it to 29 spline. Here is my question. Everyone says that inorder to do this swap you must swap the carriers, why, what is different about the carriers? Why can't I just throw in a 29 spline lunch box locker and 29 spline axles? What are the differences in the carriers?

The 29-spline shafts are bigger diameter so they will not fit into the carrier case of a 27-spline. That's why you have to change the entire carrier.

The 29 spline may be stronger but the 27 is stong on in its own right

To the average person not equipped to redo the backlash after swapping carriers, yes it is easier to just swap a whole new rear in as a whole. However, it probably wouldn't cost much more (if any at all) to pay a shop to set the backlash for the new carrier, just setting the backlash isn't gonna take long at all, maybe 2hrs worth of labor to swap carriers and reset the backlash.

I just put a Dana 35 Lock Right in my 8.25 27 spline. I don't know if it is possible for other people since I am the only person that I have found that has done this. It does work though. (I thought I had a Dana 35 when I bought the locker and installed. Didn't figure out I had a 8.25 until a week later but it works great haha)

I would try to trade or sell it and buy one for yours. less work and hassle. you can proly get more for your 29 spline than you could the 27 spline.

I think You would have to remove the Carrier and ring gear with 4.10s I'm not sure though I'm no expert. Obvious since I put a locker for a different rear in mine haha

How are the gears the problem? Does the lunchbox locker hangout if the carrier since it is for a d35? I have to remove the carrier and gear to even get the center pin out.

Yes with 4.10s you have to remove the carrier and take the ring gear off to put the locker in cause the pin will hit the gear as its thicker than 3.55s. On the d30 the carrier is small and the pin hits the gear so you have to remove it as well to put a locker in or even spider gears.
