249and 242 swap build dates

249and 242 swap build dates
I have a '94 grand cherokee with the 249 transfer case. I want to swap to a 242. I know mid year '94 they changed the gear cut on the input shaft and they say to get a transfer case from the same time frame. I can get a 242 with a build date of 8-93. My problem is my 249 has a build date of
6-13-94. Would that be considered early or late style?? Short of pulling it out is there anyother way to tell? Thanks Dave!!
