249 to 242 output shafts

249 to 242 output shafts
I am currently swapping my transfer case from the 249 to a 242. The output shaft on my 249 is internal but my 242 is external. I was curious, am I able to swap the output shaft in the 249 into the 242 I mainly wanted the 242 for the 2wd capability. The slip yolk I have does completely slide over the splined part so idk if that’ll work.
