IS THERE A COMPLETE SHAFT KIT FOR A 242? OR IS IT A WASTE OF TIME LOOKING? WANT THE PARTS SO I KNOCK IT OUT!

Check out iron rock offroad I believe they supply a 242 sye kit. Not the hack n tap I think it's the full kit

Tom Wood makes one, but there's a $400 core charge due to the increasing rarity of the 242's tail housings and main shafts. It might be worth poking around junkyards or scouring craigslist to send in spares first if you don't have the cash to cover the core or can't endure the down time by sending in the ones off your rig.

They cut to shorten and then re-spline the shaft and trim down the tail housing cone and fit it with a new seal.

As the name has it,doesnt seem like the way to go.cutting a machined and hardened part,but it does seem to work.

That's all Woods does they rework the shaft.

That's not all they do. It's kind of hard to see here, but there's new splines on the shaft where the yoke is. You can't hack 'n tap a shaft to that short of length.
