231j
so i found on cl a 231j from a 95 yj with a 21 input spline count for 150$. i was wondering if it would fit because some told me they would. i contacted novak and they informed me for all yj's with a 21 spline input will fit my 89 xj with a aw4 no prob. has anyone done this and know for a fact that it will work. i already bought the 231j and i can sell it if it dosnt. I'm looking to swap my 242 for the 231 thats why i bought it.

i haven't done that install, but, yes it will work.
you may have to plug the vac that originally went from the t-case to the front axle disco on the yj. your xj doesn't have the disco.
you may also need the shift bezel and lever/gate to match up to your selector.

ok same shaft length? and the vac ports that your talking about are the 4 breather lines that are together on the top of the case? im going to get the shifting cables from novak. the case came with a electronic speed sensor my xj is a cable operated one. i can transfer all those parts over? also what is the best slip yoke i can buy? is one brand better then the other? i see them out there but there diff prices so i wasnt sure

yup. same shaft length.
yup. 4 vac ports. plug them however you want.
vss should be able to just be swapped out with your cable speed.
as for sye, either advanced adapters (rugged ridge is exact same)
or you can go with the super short JB conversions
i personally wouldn't go with anything else.

super short is a really nice one.
it keeps your rear drive shaft longer for a better (less steep) angle lessening any binding. you will need a custom length shaft different than the AA kit. but even the AA one you need a custom shaft too.
for the shaft i would look into the tom woods over a cut down front shaft, but either or will work probably just fine.
i just have the rugged ridge as it was much cheaper than the AA kit and is exactly the same. i was told by just jeeps that the RR is made by AA.
