Default 2001 Flywheel compatability?

converting 2001 AW4 Auto to AX-15 manual.
I was under the assumption that I "needed" a 2001 flywheel to match up to my 2001 CPS and ECU.
Most every parts supplier list ONE part number for 91-01 Flywheel,, some list a 96-01 flywheel.

I have an AX-15/NP231 and flywheel out of a 94, will that flywheel work with my 2001 4.0 engine and CPS?

Thanks,
Slack

I am going with no.
The part number for a '94 and '95 is 52117761.
Part number for a '96 is 52118551.
And that part number remains the same through '01.

Got more curious.
So here:

https://www.moparpartsgiant.com/part...~52118551.html

If you scroll down a bit it says '94 to '01.
I am inclined to not believe that but.....
It does not agree with my parts catalogs and even Amazon says it does not fit. LOL.
And here is another thing that I am a little confused about.
Is there a difference between a manual and automatic one?
Cause the parts catalogs don't seem to indicate that.
At least my '94 to '96 does not.
In my '00 they seem to just talk about it for an automatic.

Hmm,
the Auto would be a flex plate,, sometimes mislabled as a flywheel.

The crank bolt patterns are all the same for 4.0
All 4.0 are internally balanced?? so flywheel would be neutral balanced.

Comes down to the CPS slots and possibly difference in manual transmissions (AX-15 vs NP)

I am swapping in a Manual trans in place of my Auto in my 2000 Cherokee (I know, I know, but I am to far in it now)
I am using an AX-15,, so technically I would need a 1999 flywheel or compatible,, IF there is a difference between the 1999 and 2000.
"Assuming" the CPS slots from a 1999 are the same as a 2000 ??

Like I said, never agian,, but I am 2 years in this build and can't change now.

Mopar parts books:
94-95 - 5300 5524
96 -99 5302 0519
2000 - 5302 0519
2001 - 5211 8551

Odd thing is all after market flywheels are listed fitting XJ 1991-2001,, while same flywheel is 91-92 for Comanche

OK. Those part number made me realize what I was doing wrong when looking them up.
Now I know better. LOL.

The only info Google could find on that number is an ebay listing for an AX15 out of a 4.0L Wrangler. The pics show the same number. Rockauto shows Mopar part # 53020519AB for 2000-2001 Cherokee and 2000-2004 Wrangler with a manual transmission. No mention of 8933002674B anywhere. The other listings cover a wide range of years so i can only assume 53020519AB is the one you want as it keeps coming up everywhere for your application and year. As for part # 52118551, it comes up as a flexplate for the AW4.

Not much help, but its all i could come with.

I am wondering if 90% of the aftermarket flywheels are listed as fitting 1991-2001,,, why would not an OEM 1994 work on a 2001?

If you have both flywheels, you should measure them very both accurately using vernier etc

I have found parts different by .020" before, although they looked identical, would not have worked (for long)

I have a flywheel (manual) from a 94 that was resurfaced,, and the original 2001 flex plate (automatic).

I am going to assume that the 1994 4.0 flywheel will function on the 2001 4.0.
both engines are internally balanced ? so the flywheels should be neutral balanced?
Both flywheels have the same OBD notches.

And lastly all the aftermarket flywheels are sold as fitting 1991-2001
