Default 2001 E-Brake cables with KJ disc brake conversion

I have a 2001 XJ that I am installing a liberty disc brake conversion.
I will be installing new E-brake cables (old ones were rusted). since I will be buying new, I want something that is a direct fit (no fold-N-clamp)
I read reviews of the crown XJ/disc conversion cables that says there was length quality control issues, but those reviews are 10 years old.

Are there any other bolt in options for the 97-up xj with disc conversion??

I used Flop Shop Offroad cable adapters. They're sold as being for 8.8 axle swaps, but they work great on my ZJ disks and connect right up to the stock XJ cables. If the parking brake levers at the drums look the same as KJ ones, I see no reason they wouldn't work for you as well. I've got some pictures here - Captain Jerry - '99 Restoration/Modification - Jeep Cherokee Forum

The price seems to have gone up significantly in a year... I only recall paying $20 shipped, they're now showing $33.

Thanks for the link,,
But since I need to purchase new cables no matter,, I was hoping to get cables that were a direct fit without adapters and mods to the ends.

Hello OPTIONX111 - I am looking at using the Flop Shop adapters. Did you modify the OEM cables at all, specifically the cable retainer which goes into the caliper bracket ? The caliper bracket is
much thicker the drum backing plate so the "teeth" do not lock. Also, did you run the cable above the spring ? Above looks like a better fit.

Thanks

I did not modify the factory cables at all. The extra length of the teeth on the cable doesn't seem seem to affect anything - they've been in place for 5k miles now. Below is how they sit.

I should mention that the handbrake hardly works right now - it really needs an adjustment that I've never done. And with an axle swap coming soon, I'm not in a rush to do it before then.

Thanks for the reply and photos. The cables do fit somewhat snuggly in the bracket. I just figured that since the OEM cables lock in place there must be a reason. The factory usually does not do something
without a reason for it. I need a working parking brake to pass NC inspection. Good to know yours have stayed in place. Before I button things up I will try to thinks of a simple way to lock them in place.
Thanks again.

Agreed, I usually try to always stick to OEM type engineering. Honestly, I'd forgotten the clips weren't a perfect fit until you asked.
