2000 XJ header question
I believe our oem piece is cracked in a place or two at this point.
What are the challenges presented by using an aftermarket header for an earlier truck? I understand that there's some extra cats in the 2000-2001 piece. Is the ECU smart enough to freak out if i use an older part? Will the rest of the exhaust still mate to the older style header?
Thanks in advance.

any pics of the cracks? you might want to re-post on the oem forum. Some of the 2000's have 2 pre-cats that cannot be left out of the exhaust.

most of the real chalenges have to do with the computer and engine managment. You have to match the NEW exhaust to the needs of the motor and computer.

I do have the pre-cats i believe, which is why i'm asking the question.
Right. I didn't know if the computer NEEDED to see 3-4 cats or whatever is on this thing, if it was that smart. I haven't had many OBDII vehicles, so i'm used to just removing all emissions crap and not throwing a CEL.

Its a bummer but you do need those o2 sensors at the cat for the ECU to work properly. Just one of those issues with the 00-01 models, on the positive side look at how long the original one lasted.

That wasn't my question, though.
Sure, i wouldn't be removing o2 sensors, i can weld new bungs in if necessary, but you're saying that not having the cats prior to the o2 sensors would cause issues?
If so, that's pretty cut and dry and i suppose i'll just put a stock replacement on, as the aftermarket headers for the 00-01 seem to be outrageously expensive. (Unless someone knows of a decent one that isn't a grand?)
