Default 2000 XJ head change :help:

Ok, so I've been doing some searching and cant seem to locate a clear answer so I decided to bring it here. I have a 2000 XJ with the 4.0 that has a cracked head and I found a 1995 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 that has a little over 115k miles that has been crashed with rear damage only and the engine appears to run good. So my question is in order for me to swap over the head from the 95 GC to the 00 cherokee, can it even be done? I read that I would have to use the exhaust manifold from the 95 and would have to fabricate a bracket for the coil pack since the 95 has a distributor, is this true and is there anything else I need to do?

Im trying to minimize the amount spent of the engine right now or else i would have just buy a CCH head and call it good. I just would like to get it in running order again before spring.

Thanks in advance for any help

What about catalyst converters. If you have federal emission style of exhaust manifold. It may work. No experience with that. However if you have California emission style manifold then you are better off finding a TUPY 0331 head from a 2002-2004 grand Cherokee WJ, or from a 200-2006 TJ wrangler

Im from Indiana, we dont have any emissions testing here. It is going to be a trail rig anyway not a DD. Worst case scenario ill just buy that 95 GC thats been crashed and use it for a trail rig and save up for a new engine in the XJ or part it out

Even as a trail rig its still illegal to remove a cat from a car,And you will have a check engine light for life and it will never run 100% with the light on.

false, true, false. if it is not plated it can have whatever exhaust it wants. the cel will definitely be on. it will, in fact, run better without a catalytic converter.

to the op: find a cyl head to fit your manifold and coil pack ign.
