As for front or rear it really depends on weather conditions where you live and if you drive it on the road much. I ran and still run lockers front and rear in my DD but I rarely see snow or ice. They just take a little getting used to.
I ran Aussies in my stock axles for 4-5 years and they worked great and I sold them and I know the front worked for at least another few years, didn't know the guy who got the rear. My Spartan that is in my front axle now lasted 3 rides before one side decided not to work. Tried spinning it and nothing. I don't get to ride often so the warranty was up so I welded it and called it a day. I wouldn't recommend them although others have had luck with them. The Spartan is known to be the loudest lunchbox on the market as well. I'd run one before a lockright though. Hated both of those I've had.

yup think ima go with the aussie up front, I have heard that the mechanical lockers are loud ? is it all the time or just when ingaging/disengaging ? I keep my xj in 2wheel on the road so if I lock the front will there still be the noise or just when in 4wd ?

What gears are you running and are you planning on re-gearing when you install the lockers?
I would install the rear first, my reasoning when I'm off roading I use 2wd till it gets so bad that I have to use 4wd then continue till stopped unable to make any more progress..........Then the winch gets used because the lockers got me into trouble

I locked the front first because the stuff I do I found the front was more useful. Them I locked the rear. I live where it snows a lot in winter and it takes getting used to but it is fine if you know what your driving and drive accordingly. A friend of mine only locked his rear and he goes good too. It's whochever you want to do first because after you lock one end its only a matter of time before you lock the other.

I would suggest front first. The front will pull you over more stuff than the rear will push you over. Also the fact that the front is not locked unless you are in 4wd. As for the rear. 92 would be a 27 spline 8.25. I would suggest finding an 8.25 out of a 97+. They have 29 spline shafts and are a bolt in swap. As far as brand goes. I have run Aussie and Spartan. honestly they will both work. Or you could go with lokka $198 shipped. We have one in the wife's and have had good luck with it.
