Evening folks, I just got my Adams drive shaft and sye kit. Looking at info on installing it and decided to wait and look into the 6 gear and wider chain and gear upgrades. I was wondering if any 99 231s came with the 6 gear pinion planet and wider chain and gears? Thanks for any info.

I think only the chevy/dodge versions of the 231 came with the 6 gear planetary and wide chain from the factory.

JB Conversions has a wide-chain kit for the Jeep 231, kind of pricey though. If you are already replacing the chain I would get it though.

Thanks. Yeah I think a bit pricey is an under statement. They really are proud of that kit. I found a take off kit for under 200. It includes the 6 gear planetary and the wide gears and chain. Need to email them a few questions before I bite the bullet. Thanks again.

Yeah, pretty expensive! I don't know what all is involved with the wide-chain kits to be honest.
But definitely change the shift fork tabs while you are in there! Mine were pretty worn when I installed my SYE

Yeah I figured I would. And bearings and seals. I seen some beefier forks, but cannot remember where. And thought about the pump and filter.

A member on this forum who has not been on in some time did it all with the NP231C out of an S10. It has the wider chain, sprockets and 6 gear planetary that he transferred to the 231J
