'02 Explorer 5.5", that's a great find. 46mm dual piston. $70ea on Rockauto incl core.
Wonder what size rotor they will accept when bolted to the knuckle.

There seems to be a split at 2002. Is it 2002 and down or 2002 and up? Earlier ones are cheaper for some reason,

I might just have to get one and try, I have a bunch of rotors to try.

Going to follow along, Marty you have done a bunch of good research on this and it keeps getting better. I need/want to upgrade mine for when I have the trailer on and loaded.

Maybe over the next week I will start collection parts and try a '00 Explorer 46mm dual piston caliper and a '03 Explorer 48mm dual piston caliper and see if they will bolt onto the early XJ knuckle and see if they will work with a 12" Sport Trac Rotor. And then see if they will fit inside a 15" wheel. That would be sweet.

Sure would. I am on a 16" thinking of going to 17" and want the maximum bite.

Please do!

IDK when I'll be able to get bugger wheels but bigger brakes now would be great to tow my boat.

Calipers on my 2000 are sticking due to pitting on the slides. Considering swapping to the older version of the knuckles so i have the option to do a brake upgrade in the future. I'm already running a 17" JK wheel/tire so clearance is there. Would really love to run the GT500 rotor with a 4-piston Brembo caliper and fill out the wheels a little nicer. Improved braking is really high on my "want list" for the XJ.
