Default 1.5" OME lift Quandry...

so i've talked to dirk at DPG, talked to the guys at High Country 4x4 and OME/ARB. So as you can guess by now i'm majorly confused.

1. I've been told to do only the medium / only do the Heavy Duty

2. I've been told that i'll need additional parts; That using a Hybrid kit is the best route / OME doesnt reccomend hybrid kits and in its stand alone kit is complete. also that ill need new engine mounts?!

3. also i'm planning on doing this myself with a friend who's a 20+ mechanic / only use proffesional install because you'll totally F it up.

So guys please PLEASE tell me these answers.

1. What Duty strength will work? (going to get a front and rear bumper; weight 200 lbs. http://www.nates4x4.com/ProductDetai...F%5FXJR%5F SO )

2. if i do the OME 1.5"; what else am i going to need for a complete install?

3. My friend is an accomplished mechanic and has done man lifts. is it really going to change the whole install if i use a "proffesional Mechanic"

Heck no, you don't need to take it to anyone if you have mechanical ability and the right tools for the job.

As for duty, I'd go medium all the way around if you plan to add weight like you said (bumpers, winch, roof rack, tire carrier, etc).

As for mixed/stand-alone kits, thats up to you and your wallet. I'm guessing you're going to be tossing a pretty penny at a 1.5" lift. Maybe thats what you want, but you can get more with less. But at 1.5" lift, all you really need is leafs (or shackles) and coils (or coil spacers)...

Need more information like what do you intend to do with this XJ?
How about your wheeling experience. Never newbie expert?
For 1.5" lift if that's all you want you can get a heavier duty than stock by just adding V8 ZJ coils and a couple of leaves out of an S10 pickup or a second set of XJ springs added to your current set.
Less than $150 probably. And you will not have to undo the rear leaf bolts!

How about we figure out what the OP wants to do with it first before you start criticizing? I went 2" OME thank you very much because I didn't want to jack it up real high; I wanted to be able to do this...

3 inches is not "a lot". The majority believes 3" should of came stock. You'd be the same height of most of the suvs on the road. But not as high as a truck.

Height is not the issue, clearance is. Even stock our XJ's have more clearance than 99% (obvious estimate) of all similarly sized SUV's being produced today, even if our roofline is lower.

The OP may want to keep a close to stock appearance, or maybe just replace his worn stock suspension with something a little more visually appealling and doesn't want to get bigger (new) tires. Even if he wants to go 3" I still recommend OME over RC. OME offers one of the nicest suspension systems on the market for mild lifts.

From where? I heard they were on backorder too, but when I order my leafs anyways they were stocked...I think I got 'em from quadratec...

Rusty's has a 2" coil. I've got Rusty's 4.5" coils to go with my OME leafs in back...

hey guys! first off, thanks for the quick responses.

I want to keep stock appearance, mileage(fingers crossed) and be able to do exactly what that video showed! i live around vail colorado so there is an insane ammount of improved 4x4 roads however, if i half *** this build and get stuck i'm gonna be there for a minute... the price to ensure that is worth it to me i just dont want to overspend for the hell of it.

so i'm pretty set on my 1.5 lift and the bumpers. i wanna run the stock size all terrains i have now into the ground. 3" is gonna be too much
