I learned to drive in a YJ 5 spd.

Now that was fun! And i drive 30 cars a day at work on average... Most of those being in the $45k-$70k range. Even some vettes every once in a while

I'm 16, I own 2 xjs. I pay every dime related to them, initial cost, insurance, gas, repairs and mods. I work about 35 hours a week to do so. One is pretty modified and the other is stock for now. By my 17th my little one will be modified also. I take pride in both my jeeps and all I do to them. They aren't street queens and I'm glad I have done what I have with what I have. I'm glad I do it all on my own!

I miss the days when all I had to worry about was paying for a Jeep..... When you're 19 and say you work harder then a 30 year old. Wait til you're 30 to say that. Believe it or not, you learn some things with age..

I did own my first XJ at 16 though, and have had 4 XJ's and 3 ZJ's since (among many other vehicles). They are an awesome, cheap rig in my opinion. And I still own one now for a reason.

Amen to that my friend. I too remember the days when my only bills were, Truck pymt, insurance, gas, and beer for the weekend. Now at 41 there's rent, child support, mort. pymt (so my wife and kids can stay in the house till it sells ) and the list goes on & on. But hey, life is what you make it and I am still enjoying every minute of it.

Im glad to hear about those of you that do work for your money but you just wait, your day is coming.

Also, another lesson is to put your sway bars back on! At least the front one. They are there for a reason, if they didn't do anything, the jeep wouldn't have them.

Well I'm 20 now but when I was 19 I bought a $16,000 Jetta, and just bought my first XJ last week. Love having a street car and a trail truck haha. But yeah I'm a Union Electrical Apprentice working full time. I pay for everything also.

Well my first car was an old green jetta, back when I was 17. My pops paid a grand for it. But I worked to keep it running short after. No extra cash for my a%*. Every penny was drained from my pockets. Now im 21 one in college. Still broke. Will continue to be broke till I get my degree. But there's a fun side to life now, I bought my xJ for $500 last year. Shes digging in my pockets haha but its all good! If only I had discovered jeeps and wheelin back in high school. Its a lot more fun!! Then getting speeding tickets lol

If I had $50K and a choice between a Special Edition Ford and a XJ with a single well placed mod...

Yeah at almost 20 I work for the city, and side work, I pay 850 in rent, then utilities, insurance car and medical, credit card, paid for my cars cash, and it's not my fault I don't have a child but don't think age has any restriction on how independent we are, in ten years all that'll change is I'll have another xj a mortgage instead of rent and a wife and child but trust me if you want it a 18 year old can work harder make more and be more independent than a 40 year old, but we all already know this will just keep going back and forth but the older owners say we think we know everything but hey listen to yourselves you couldn't tell who is adults and who are the teens by how both of us know all

Bought my second XJ (98 with 3.5" RE lift & 31s) from a 17 year old. His mom told me that at 16 he discovered Jeeps and spent all his money there. At 17 he discovered girls and that he couldn't afford jeeps & girls at the same time. lol

I'm 19, my first XJ was actually handed down to me from the family. My dad bought our '95 when it was a year old in '96 with only 13k miles on it. Last year my dad handed it down since it wasn't on the road for 2 years (he has a company vehicle, plus 3 personal and his CJ) you could say I didn't pay a dime for it, but sitting on grass for 2 years takes its toll on a vehicle. Been pouring my paychecks into this XJ ever since. Plus it is cool to still be drivin the Jeep I grew up in, we had always had an XJ for the family (first on was an '87 4.0L Pioneer) and I love XJs so much I'll ALWAYS have one.

I'd like to buy another since I know where I can get a $500 '97 but I have no where to put it and can't afford the insurance on 2 vehicles.

You have a lot to learn.. Yes, you're doing well at your age, no one said you weren't. I owned a house at your age, so I guess you can do better, huh? Don't get butt hurt over it, it's life. You haven't learned everything, and I sure as hell haven't learned everything either. Keep up the good work, just don't think you've got it all figured out already
