Hey guys, would love to hear your ideas for mounting a nice size flag to my xj. With flag day and independence day coming up it'd be cool to take her around town flying our colors. I'll be staying off the highway, so 50ish mph, don't have a cb mount or anything, would like to stay away from drilling, and fly a nice size 3x5 flag. I see the hitch mounts pop up once in a while when I search, anybody ever try any of those? Trying to stay at a decent price as well. Post pics of your rigs with flags or any ideas, products that might work. Thanks!

I make and sell flag poles for 2" receivers. Posted more details in another flag thread.

Made all the ones pictured and many more. Had my personal holders up to 70 mph no problem. At those speeds it's the quality of the flag that's the main concern.

Just a round tube on a 2"square tubing. Then I put a little brace at the bottom. Not of the the thickness, I had used some random metal laying around. When I first made it,mig was a little to short. So I extended to where a 3x5 flag would be able to just clear the roof and it works great now. Flag can freely wave in all directions and can be seen from all sides. I'll be sitting in the classroom at school and lookin out the window over the roof of all the cars in the parking lot, I can see ol glory flappin in the wind. Lol

yes, solid metal. You can drill various holes or you can make a seperate tube that extends up and down for different heights as well as for different size flags. I'll get a pic in a sec.

Here's pics, this is what I did to extend it and it worked out great so now I can change the height of the pole to accommodate different flag sizes. Also, for the top pole that is adjustable, I used the old factory Tie rod.

how do you attach the flag to the pole? Have you found a way to keep it from wrapping around the pole when stopping and wind direction changes and such?

I used reusable zip ties, they have a little button on it so I can undo and redo it. I think I got them from oreillys, autozone, or lowes. Not sure. Also, been running this setup for over a year and I've only had an issue with the wrapping once. And it was only wrapped around one time. Surprisingly, it was worse before I extended it.

This was one of my first ones, my newer ones are thinner and better cut. This was put together really quick for myself so I just cared about function not looks.

doesn't the zip tie rid up the pole? I was thinking about using PVC. But I was worried it would get brittle from the sunlight. And would bend/break too easily when going don the road. Especially with as high as I have my flag. Lol

My bf bought a metal pole and zip tied a high quality 3x5 flag to it last year, it moved a tiny bit but even at highway speeds it was of no concern. Flag held up really well too! He's got an f250 so he just found a way to mount it in the bed, a bit harder on my jeep. While he's an awesome mechanic, neither of us have any idea how to weld. Thanks for all the pics and ideas. I'm gonna keep trying to look for a way to make a hitch mount, got a couple weeks before flag day
