Default xj to zj

well, im selling my xj. still havent sold it but in the process

so all i have for the moment is $2500 cash

if i can sell my xj i'll have around $4500 and look for a wrangler

but with only $2500 i may just go with a zj.

what are the ups and downs i can expect from going from an xj to zj??

to be honest I love the zj's. A friend of mine was debating it and I talked him into the zj and so far he loves it. way more room inside. You can get a v8. factory coil, 4link rear.
I think with the 4.0 they are much more doggy than the xj, probably because of the weight. With the 5.2 they run great.
More chance of getting a crappy t-case, but thats easily fixed.
If my xj ever goes anywhere it will be for a zj.
For space reference, in my 93 I could fit mu 36x12.50 tsl spare laying down flat in the rear cargo area. and even caged thre was plenty of passenger room front and rear.

keep your xj, and buy the zj for your daily driver. 2 cherokees are always better than 1 wrongler.

I went the other way. My wife's and sometimes my DD is a 2004 Grand cherokee. We purchased it new. I just sold my 1998 Wrangler. I hated to get rid of it, but I couldn't carry the things with me that I need to.

So my adventure with the 1988 XJ has started.

Seems that there is a constant theme to V8 ZJ's on Craigslist...
Transmission issues. seems that 90% of the posted V8 ZJ's for sale have some kind
of tranny issue.
Such is the case I won't even look at a V8 Grand.

Buy a nice grand with the 5.2, lift it six inches with all around coils, adjust TC/yoke as needed, throw 33/34" boggers on it, and you'll have SUCH A GREAT RIG. No sarcasm. Guy near where I live has a 6" skyjacked ZJ with 35 Yokohama M/T's on it, and I've seen that thing just scream through ANYTHING. I'd trade my XJ for it, sad to say. But if I had the option to have my XJ with those mods, I'd def keep the XJ.

i agree the xj and zj carry a lot more we have all three a 92 xj and a98 zj with the 5.9L v8 and a 98 wrangler (the wifes). so i have the other two so i can carry all the stuff we need cuz she can only carry herself and the crazy lab we have (i wont let her in my jeeps) the dog that is. the grand is dd and i love it. dont get me wrong i love the xj also just not as quick. the gas thing is only relative in the fact that unless you stay home and never go anywhere then you pay the price to play.
