i had some wood laying around the garage used a couple pieces ply wood and sum 3/4 x 5 1/2 boards and used the ply wood for a top and bottom and the boards for sides and back, just used screws, used another piece of the 3/4 x 5 1/2 for a center support, i put it in the cargo area(i measured it to fit between the wheel wells). i have lots of room for tools and gear in then cubby and all the room i need on top to store whatever i need, very cheap very functional.

just be sure to mount it well enough that incase of a roll-over or head on, the tools/box doesn't come flying up and taking either you or your passengers heads off. nothing worse that surviving an accident only to be injured by the flying hammers and ratchets.

good idea tho, i am contemplating building one out of steel and welding/bolting it to the floor. but i like to be able to sleep back there.
