Might be about 100lbs worth of stuff, but on Saturday my alt died from mud at an off road park: I pulled it, cleaned it, and was good to go in 45 minutes. I like the idea of being able to fix my rig and drive it home if I need to.
i can do that too... with a set of 3/8" drive sockets in a small bag. you dont need to carry 100lbs worth of tools to fix everything.

I have all my tools in a 24" canves mil bag and a 20 mm ammo can for parts and oil. The handi-man jack is on the back rack. I also have a good 4 way.

Yeah, I'm quite aware that I will likely never utilize all the tools I bring. Heck, even to do the alt it was like 4 tools in total, but when I'm at least an hour from home I'd rather be prepared than need a tow. Besides, IMO 100lbs isn't much, it's less than a single passenger.

100lbs is a lot when you are adding it to your total gear weight. i drove and wheeled cross country and did plenty of repairs.... never needed more than the basic tools i carry now.

I just get paranoid, one of those things if I don't have it I'll need it.

My dad has passed along a very wise yet at the same time altogether horrible saying...

"I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and hot have it."

I use this when backpacking too. Probably why I can't have Can't have less than 50 lbs regardless of trip length lol

with the tools that I have hanging out in the back of my XJ, I could easily disassemble nearly any car ever made... I have been meaning to put together a very basic tool set to keep in the XJ, that would pretty much be XJ specific, but it keeps slipping my mind. I do have a rack/wall that I made in the back of my XJ that is awesome for holding random stuff. I will try to remember to clean the back of my XJ out tomorrow and snap a picture of it with everything in it's proper place.
