Default XJ steering skid plate

Could anyone comment on the usefulness of the stock XJ steering skid plate for a 2000 XJ? I have not seen one installed and am only looking at a picture of the part. My car has a 31/2" lift and offroads mostly in rocky terrain.

Thxs,
Jim aka relgel

from my point of view it looks like it may protect your steering a bit but not very well, its extra weight, and when you want to do something down there its in the way in a bad way...

I would imagine that it would prove useful if you are in rocky terrain. Protecting the items that are prone to being banged on rocks is a pretty good idea. Just my thoughts though.

Ive got one and it helps a good amount. Protects tie rod, drag link, pitman arm and everything else under there. The stock ones are strong and can take a good hit

Hate to hijack... but how does one remove the front bolts on the skidplate? Mine are free-spinning... I need to drop mine to get to my tranny line.
