Guys, need a bit of help. Since selling my old XJ last year, I miss it.
There is one very near to me and the guy is selling it. drives like a XJ and is sensible price. But, needs springs/shocks etc no big deal, but the worry is on tick over The oil pressure goes to Zero, and warning light Check Gauges comes on. Now he says his mechanic put a gauge on it, and said pressure is fine, so probably just the gauge. This car is used daily by him, so assume if was Zero, the engine would have gone bang by now. Anyone had this before, or know of it, as tempted to buy it, but could be an expensive mistake.
Appreciate any advice.
From a sunny day in England..... Les

Ask to see the repair order stating that. And why didn't they fix it? A new sending unit. Had the old one out......

What year?

REALLY a sunny day here in Arizona.......

The gauges in the dash almost never go. I'd also be looking at what work was done, like test results from a mechanical testing gauge. They still might have screwed up the sending unit or its wiring.

I would not buy any car if the seller told me "well the engine MIGHT NOT need a rebuild, take a gamble and replace the entire instrument cluster"

No report as a friend checked it (Allegedly) I am leaning on NOT going for it, and looking at a Grand Cherokee tomorrow. Sorry the year was 2000 model on the XJ

Glad sunny all round then lol

could be as simple as a loose wire as bad as the engine is toast dont take a gamble. if you like the jeep take it to somewhere that can verify the oil presure.

Yeah and thanks to all thah replied. If you rev it, the pressure goes up but slight, then instantly drops to nil. Not going for it, just rang him.
I have no idea why they expect to sell a car on trust with something that could be potentially catastrophic.
Regards to all Les.
