XJ Humvee Chop
First off, this is my first real post on the site so forgive me if it's in the wrong section.
I have two XJ's sitting in my yard right now, both 88's and they're both projects I'll be starting soon and I had an idea for one and I just wanted to get other peoples input before I started on it. I've searched around quite a bit but haven't really been able to find any pictures of anyone doing anything similar.
This is going to be an extreme budget build for off-road only so forgive me if my plans sound a little backwoods to you guys lol. My plan is, to chop the back (Like many people have already done), take a roll bar off a 1/4 truck and chop it to fit in the back for the added support, and then I want to replace the metal so that it slopes down in the back like the old Humvees do. I'd thought about just fabricating a leather canvas with snap buttons to take it on and off but the more I think about it, the more I want to just replace is with new metal so it's all one enclosed piece.
I just wanted to get some input and see if anyone else has done this and their experience with it. Now I realize it's not at all practical, but I'm not doing it for practicality, I'm doing it because I think it'll look bada$$ lol.

I see what he is talking about, he knows about all of the other chop tops but he wants a slanted roof in the back that is like a 45 decree angle that would go from the roof hight to like the top of the tail lights. That's what I got from that if i was correct. And I think it would be cool to see done!

I have, if you read my post you'd see that I'm well aware lots of people have their Cherokees chopped, that's not what I'm asking about. Maybe I just worded my description a little weird is all.
Yes, that's exactly what I had in mind, at least one person understood my post, I said in my post that I'm aware lots of people have them chopped lol. Maybe it was just the way I worded my description but yes that's what I meant. Basically the same way how the old Military style Humvees looked.

That'd be cool if you had a picture. I thought about the doing canvas at first but I think in the end (IF) I end up doing the chop, I'm going to use metal and keep it all enclosed. I'm still unsure about it because I haven't seen any Cherokees that have this particular chop done to them so I don't know how it'd actually turn out.

How exactly am I cutting my rear window in half? The basic chop is going to be cut the same way as most, only once my roll bar is in, there's going to be metal covering it back up and connecting back with the roof and sides.

Nevermind, sorry, I see what your saying now, I thought you meant the back door window. No I'm going to perform the cut in the same way as a regular chop would be done so all of the rear window will be removed.

I gotcha. And you pretty much got me.
What your doing is cutting the spot for the side glass in half. That's why you haven't seen many like this.
I saw a guy with the roll bar in that fashion, just no diagonally cut sheetmetal to fill the spot.
Its in the huge 'how to chop the back of your XJ' thread.

Yea that's the plan, for now at least lol. I want it to all look flush together so when it's finished and painted it looks like all one piece, like it actually belongs there and isn't some freak backyard creation (Which it will be lol).
