Xj drives great in the snow
On the way home from work it started snowing in south east MI. So after dinner me thinks I will see how the Xj does in the white stuff (first winter with it). I was decently surprised at to how will it performed. I was laughing as my heep was driving past all these front wheel drive cars trying to take off from stop lights. The thing even stops well for no ABS or traction control systems. I think we may have been spoiled with such technologies. Cherokee is a champ for having such a grocery getter look and feel in stock form.
Just sharing my thoughts of the Xj.

Mud tires are not for snow. the rubber is too hard. You want a tire with a soft compound, so it will stick to the ground, with lots of siping. I drive in snowy Canada eveyday with my M/T's and I can tell you they are like driving on racing slicks

MTs are not meant for the snow. They can be fun but it gets old after a while. We used to run super swampers on most of our vehicles when I lived in Nebraska and in winter they sucked.

Im running the treadwright version of the bfg at's with the ultra grip stuff ( dont ask what it is I didnt order it but they screwed up and sent them to me. I think its crushed walnut shells if I remember right.) best tire I have ever owned, they wear great no problem balancing them.

I'm thinking about getting a set of treadwrights for my Jeep as an on-road tire and having the muds as another set, I have two sets of wheels so why not. If I don't go with the treadwrights i'll probably get some goodyear wrangler duratracs, they're snow/ice rated and supposed to preform wonderfully in wet weather. Have a nice agressive AT pattern too

I cant say enough good things about the tires. I paid 350 to get all 4 shipped to my door. Compair that with buying actual bfg's. There is quite a few people on here running them. Really good customer service to.

See, for me its $422 to my front door, throw in mounting and balancing and you're at $480. If I were to get them I'd get the kedge grip, doesn't make much sense not to. so figure $500. Thats still cheaper than BFGs would be though
