Default Xj '97-01 gas tank?

I wanted to know what quantity of fuel can an original fuel tank hold on one of these things. Trying to see if nowadays it is affordable gas wise

I'm the 2nd owner. PO was actually a company who ordered their fleet XJ's straight from the factory with a few "extra" things, one being a 28 gallon tank. I was surprised when I found out. My gauge is also off, never seem to run out of gas lol so far I've only filled it up to 25 gallons. Before that, I ran on E for 3 days...

Well the 97-01 gas tanks already sit pretty low, and compared to others i don't see much of a difference. My tank looks a little wider than it is taller when I look at other rigs...

You've got me curious now, time to take some measurements when i get home!

These damn build sheets don't make sense at all... I think I might actually have an aftermarket gas tank because I can't find a Daimler/Plymouth/mopar stamp anywhere. Also from what I'm reading online the 8 additional gallons on my build sheet states it was sent to the company with 8 additional gallons of gas, which is confusing as all hell.... I do know for sure it was used as a company vehicle as my car fax states and a few other resources I've checked up on. Aside from that tho, my xj does take over 20+ gallons but I'm starting to doubt it being a 28.... Time to run it dry and check!
