Ok, so I have a warrior products roof basket that i bought used off of craigslist. The paint isn't in the greatest condition, and it's starting to get some surface rust. I started sanding it to bare metal a few days ago and that's been a HUGE PITA. I've been working on it for a few days, and am not even finished with half of it. My question is: is it necessary to sand the entire thing, or can i just primer and paint over the current paint. Obviously i will sand where the surface rust is, but is it necessary to do the entire thing? What do you guys think?

 

As long as the surface is "smooth" then you will be good. 400 grit sand everything, high build primer, then paint. or... just bedline!

Do you think it's going to make a difference as to what has been sanded, and what hasn't? No primer is needed, if it's bedlined right?
